City Of Raleigh Employee Leads State Planning Association
Fleming El-Amin II, a transportation planner for the City of Raleigh Public Works Department’s Transportation Services Division, was recently elected president of the North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association (NCAPA). Mr. El-Amin will serve a two-year term as president of the organization.
The American Planning Association is national planning organization with over 40,000 members nationally and abroad. NCAPA is a nonprofit, public interest and research organization representing over 1,600 practicing planners, officials, students and citizens involved with urban and rural planning issues throughout North Carolina. Since 1957, NCAPA has partnered with the University of North Carolina’s School of Government to offer training workshops, conferences and other education opportunities for planning professionals.
During his tenure as president of NCAPA, Mr. El-Amin hopes to bring more awareness of planning issues to the state and increase involvement among young professionals.
Mr. El-Amin has been a transportation planner for the City of Raleigh since 2007. His responsibilities include thoroughfare system planning and design, comprehensive bicycle and pedestrian planning, and capital improvement planning. Prior to joining the City, Mr. El-Amin was a land use planner with Triangle Transit.
Mr. El-Amin has a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte and a master’s degree in city and regional planning from Morgan State University in Baltimore. In addition to NCAPA, he is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
