Traffic Lane Shift On McDowell Street Set To Begin Tuesday
The west detour on McDowell Street from Lenoir to Davie streets will be removed as construction nears completion on the downtown convention center. Beginning Tuesday, July 29, traffic lanes will be moved back to the original and permanent McDowell Street traffic lane configuration. This will allow final road construction to be complete in the next three weeks.
Motorists are urged to remain alert, use caution and obey the 25-mph speed limit when driving through the work zone for the convention center. The 500,000-square-foot convention center is being constructed on Salisbury Street. A grand opening for the new facility is scheduled for Sept. 5-6.
