Ridership On New R-Line Buses Is Growing

Ridership on the City’s R-Line downtown circulator continues to grow. Weekend ridership in particular is very strong as the program enters its second month.

The two largest single-day passenger totals for the R-Line occurred during the last two weeks with ridership topping 800 passengers on separate occasions. The peak ridership continues to be on Fridays and Saturdays with an average of more than 500 riders on those days. The weekday average is 323 passengers. A total of 2,665 passengers rode the R-Line from March 15 through March 21, just below the peak of 2,722 the previous week.

A trip on the R-Line is free. The bus connects employees, residents, conventioneers and visitors downtown to retail and entertainment hot spots, restaurants and parking. A majority of restaurants and other attractions are within one block of the R-Line’s route. Stops for the R-Line are strategically located to better serve attractions and parking venues. The route uses two environmentally friendly hybrid electric buses. The R-Line runs every 10 to 15 minutes. Hours of operation for the new service are 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 2:15 a.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
