Public Infomation Meetings On Proposed Annexations Set

The City of Raleigh is holding public information meetings on the proposed annexation of property. The meetings will be held on Oct. 20 at Barwell Road Community Center, located at 3935 Barwell Road, and on Oct. 23 at Millbrook Exchange Community Center, 1905 Spring Forest Road. The public information meeting at Barwell Road Community Center begins at 7 p.m.; the meeting at Millbrook Exchange Community Center starts at 6:30 p.m.

The proposed annexation areas are:

  • Bentley Woods subdivision, Phase 2, and the I-540 right-of-way. The subdivision is located off of Fox Road and Louisburg Road;
  • Battle Ridge subdivision, Phase 1, located off of Rock Quarry Road and Battle Bridge Road;
  • The Falls residential development on Falls of Neuse Road just south of the Neuse River;
  • Berkshire Downs, Tracts 1 and 2 located off of Perry Creek Road across from the WRAL Soccer Center; and,
  • Ebenezer Church Road properties that primarily includes commercial and industrial sites. There also are five single-family dwellings on the land.

Property owners in the effected areas have been mailed notices about the City’s proposed annexation plan. Combined, the five proposed annexation areas contain 423 acres with an estimated population of 1,510.

The annexations would go into effect June 30, 2009, if approved by the Raleigh City Council.

The purpose of the public information meetings is to give City staff an opportunity to review the approved annexation plan with property owners in the affected areas before the council takes final action. The annexation report explains to property owners and residents the City’s plan for extending municipal services to the areas. City staff members will be available at both public information meetings to answer questions. Citizens can view the annexation report in the City Clerk’s Office at the Avery C. Upchurch Government Complex, 222 W. Hargett St. Interested parties also can contact Alfreda Bryant with the Department of City Planning, 516-2652, to get information about the annexation report.

In addition to the public information meetings, the Raleigh City Council will hold a public hearing on the City’s proposed annexation plan. The public hearing will be conducted during the council’s regularly scheduled meeting beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4 in the council chamber at the Upchurch Government Complex.
