Council Approves "The Edison" Project
The Raleigh City Council on Tuesday approved the site plan for a mixed-use condominium development on a 2.9 acre site downtown. “The Edison” will be comprised of two 574-foot-high towers and two 369-foot high towers rising out of a shared nine-story base. When completed, the complex will have more than 1.57 million square feet commercial, office, retail and residential space.
The two 38-story towers will be on a parcel of land surrounded by Martin, Blount, Davie, and Wilmington streets. The project will contain a maximum of 640 housing units and eight levels of parking decks holding more than 1,700 parking spaces. The developer has also reserved the right to possibly convert 320 housing units into a hotel with a maximum of 320 hotel rooms.
Before a building permit will be issued, the developer will submit detailed drawings to the City of Raleigh Planning Department for review. The City’s Appearance Commission’s Design Review Committee and the Historic Districts Commission will also review the building’s plans.
