Council Approves After-Hours Inspections Program

The City of Raleigh Inspections Department is providing a new service that offers building inspections after normal business hours. The City Council voted unanimously on Sept. 16 to approve the At Your Service/After-Hours Inspections Process.

The new program is a voluntary inspection service designed to provide contractors and homeowners with code certified inspectors after normal business hours. Projects eligible for after-hours inspections are:

  • New construction;
  • Alterations;
  • Interior completions;
  • Additions;
  • Change of use;
  • Shell buildings; and,
  • Single-family dwellings.

The fee for after-hours commercial inspections is $125 per hour for each trade inspector. For residential inspections, the fee is $75 per hour for each trade inspector. There is a two-hour minimum if the inspector is already at work prior to doing an after-hours inspection. A three-hour minimum is required if the inspector has to leave their personal residence to do an after-hours inspection. The new after-hours service is available for non-emergency inspections only.

For more information about the after-hours inspections program, contact the City of Raleigh Inspections Department at 516-2495.
