City Distributing Coupon Applications For Digital TV Converter Boxes
In conjunction with the National Black Church Initiative and the National Association of Broadcasters, the City of Raleigh Community Services Department is distributing applications for $40 coupons to purchase digital television converter boxes.
On February 17, 2009, all full-power broadcast television stations in the United States will stop broadcasting on analog airwaves and begin broadcasting only in digital. Consumers who have televisions with analog tuners only will have to acquire digital-to-analog set-top converter boxes to watch television. Residents who have cable or satellite television service will not need a converter box. Digital broadcasting will allow stations to offer improved picture and sound quality and additional channels.
For Raleigh residents who receive converter box coupons, a Florida company will provide the boxes at face value. Coupon applications will be limited to one per household. Local churches and civic groups are welcome to assist the City of Raleigh in distributing the applications. For more information, contact the City of Raleigh Community Services Department at 996-6100.
