Approval Given To Stanhope Center Site Plan
The Raleigh City Council voted 6-2 today to approve a site plan for the Stanhope Student Housing Center and parking garage.
The Stanhope Student Housing Center is planned to be located on Stanhope Avenue and Concord Street between Friendly Drive and Rosemary Street, near the campus of North Carolina State University. Plans call for a 102-foot-tall, 277-unit multi-family building. The building will contain 167 four-bedroom units, 40 three-bedroom units and 70 two-bedroom units. In addition, the Stanhope Center proposal includes 1,520 square feet of retail space, a 787-space parking deck and 8,235 square feet of office space.
Before the council voted to approve the site plan, changes were made in the proposal to address concerns of nearby homeowners. For example, the western side of the parking deck closest to a residential area will be lowered to two levels. Traffic-calming measures also will be put in place at the parking deck exit that is closest to a residential area. The traffic-calming devices are designed to slow motorists leaving the parking deck.
