Landlord Training Program Registration Under Way
The City of Raleigh’s popular and successful Landlord Training Program (pdf document) has announced its 2008 classes. The final class of the year is October 15. The purpose of this one-day course is to provide landlords and property managers with practical tips on how to reduce the likelihood of nuisance violations and drug, gang and illegal activity occurring in and around rental property.
The course includes information on applicant screening, rental agreements, warning signs of drug and gang activity, crisis resolution, and the Probationary Rental Occupancy Permit (PROP) ordinance.
This course is approved by the NC Real Estate Commission for continuing education elective credits (4 hours) as well as the NC State Bar CLE Elective. In addition, this course satisfies the PROP Ordinance training program requirement.
Interested parties are strongly encouraged to pre-register. The pre-registration fee is $25 and covers the cost of the training manual, handouts and lunch. If you would like to receive continuing education credit for this course, the pre-registration fee is $25 for NCREC CE and $175 for CLE credit.

Foundation for success
Seventy-five (75) percent of the landlords and property managers who participated in the program in 2006 and 2007 say they intend to make changes to their property and/or property management practices as a result of the City’s program.
According to the summary of program results, a total of 218 people participated in the six one-day courses offered in 2006-2007. Combined, these participants managed 13,771 rental units throughout Raleigh and, on average, had 6 years of experience as landlords or property managers. One hundred and eighty-six (186), or 85 percent, of the landlords and property managers who enrolled in the program completed post-training session evaluations, which were used to improve the quality and content of the course. Eight (8) PROP-required landlords have taken this course.
