Neighborhood College
Sign up for the Neighborhood College!
The Raleigh Neighborhood College, a program offered by the City of Raleigh in partnership with Wake County. Students in the Neighborhood College will have a chance to meet and engage with city staff, county staff, and other Raleigh residents to learn new and enhanced ways of increasing citizen participation and involvement in their community. We will provide you with the tools to get involved in neighborhood improvement and community organization.
The purpose of the Neighborhood College is to promote community organization, citizen participation and local government awareness. Each session will include developing ways of using the information gained through the sessions to be active participants in their neighborhoods and the programs offered through the City of Raleigh.
Classes will be held one night per week (usually Thursday). There will be two sessions: Spring (March-May) and Fall (September-November). Light Dinner will be provided prior to the start of each class. Classes will be held at different locations in the City, although most classes will be in the downtown area.
Interested persons will need to fill out and submit an application to the Community Services Department. Space in the Neighborhood College is limited to 25 people, and applications will be accepted to create a diverse student population from as many Raleigh neighborhoods as possible. In order to graduate, students do homework and develop a neighborhood improvement project idea.
Applications and information are readily available. Please call the Community Services Department at 996-6100 for more details or visit us online at www.raleighnc.gov/communityservices for requirements, applications or a brochure. Download Neighborhood College Application.
