Yard Waste Recycling Center
The City began weekly curbside collection of yard waste from Raleigh residents in November of 1992 to meet state mandates prohibiting yard waste from being disposed of in landfills. The City also opened the City of Raleigh Yard Waste Center to recycle the yard waste materials into wood chips, mulch and compost at the same time.
Examples of yard waste debris acceptable at the Yard Waste Center include grass clippings, shrubbery trimmings, leaves, limbs, logs, brush, pine straw, and hay. Yard waste material must not be mixed with other trash, rocks, or dirt.
Please do not bring trash, stumps, treated lumber, or any building materials to the Yard Waste Center. The Yard Waste Center is for yard waste debris only.
Yard waste debris is accepted for a fee only from within the corporate city limits of Raleigh. Wood chips, mulch, and compost are available for sale to the general public.
Tipping fees for yard waste debris brought into the Yard Waste Center are as follows:
- Non-commercial vehicles pay a fee of $25 per ton, with a minimum fee of $6.25.
- Commercial vehicles pay a fee of $25 per ton, with a minimum fee of $12.50.
The Yard Waste Center accepts payment in the form of MasterCard, VISA, checks with proper ID, and cash.
The Yard Waste Center is located at 900 N. New Hope Road, off of Highway 64 East. Normal hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Additional information may be obtained by calling 919-250-2728.
*** Up to 30% of the waste you generate at home could be composted in your own backyard! This would save collection and transporation costs by City crews and reduce pollution. In addition, it would provide you with fantastic nutrient rich compost you can place back into your garden. ***
