Disposal Facilities
Wake County's South Wake Sanitary Landfill is the drop-off spot for rocks, building materials and many other items that cannot be collected as part of regular weekly curbside garbage or yard waste collection services by City of Raleigh crews. There is no charge to Wake County residents provided that the materials are taken in a non-commercial, single axle vehicle. A multi-material drop-off facility is located at the South Wake Landfill to accept used oil, tires, white goods (appliances), computers and electronic equipment, telephone books and many other items for recycling.
South Wake Municipal Solid Waste Landfill: 6300 Old Smithfield Road, Apex. Directions: from I-440 Beltline, exit US 1 South, take it to US Hwy 55 (Apex exit). Turn left on Hwy 55. The landfill is approximately 5 miles down on the right.
The North Wake Convenience Center on Deponie Road has reached capacity and is permanently closed as of May 28, 2008.
East Wake Transfer Station: NO RESIDENTS, commercial vehicles only! 820 Corporation Parkway, Raleigh 919.231.5744 Directions: From I-440 Beltline, take US 64 East to Corporation Parkway. Turn right on Corporation Parkway and take it to the end of the road. Open Mon. - Sat. from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
