Summer Youth Employment

The City of Raleigh Summer Youth Employment Program promotes Raleigh’s youth by helping them develop quality Life Skills. Youth perform public service while earning money and acquiring a valuable job experience. The Raleigh Summer Youth Employment Program is designed for young people between the ages of 14-21 who live in the Raleigh City limits. The program seeks to develop good work habits and to stress both education and experience as a prerequisite to a successful future.

The City of Raleigh will make 160 jobs available to program participants. Selected youth will work between 20 and 35 hours per week. Personal and career development workshops are conducted throughout the year.

When does the program begin?

Participants will begin work on Monday, June 16. However, there will be some training dates during Wednesday, June 11 and Thursday, June 12.

How long does it last? The last day of work will be Friday, August 15.  Friday, July 4 is a non-paid holiday.  Participants are expected to work the full nine weeks.

When and how much will I be paid? Participants are paid $6.15 for each hour worked. Paychecks are distributed at the work site on a bi-weekly schedule.
