Permanent positions are allocated in the City of Raleigh’s budget. Permanent positions are either full-time or part-time and include benefits. Applicants for permanent positions are subject to background investigations and controlled substance tests.
Temporary positions are either part-time or full-time. These positions are short term or long term (from one day to several months). Seasonal positions, which are temporary, last for a specific duration. Temporary part-time positions do not include benefits. Temporary full-time positions accrue vacation and sick leave and receive holiday pay after six months of continuous service. Applicants for temporary positions are subject to background investigations and controlled substance tests.
Part-time positions are either permanent or temporary and are scheduled at any number of hours less than a full time schedule. Part-time permanent positions include benefits on a pro-rated basis. Internships are opportunities the City of Raleigh offers to allow students to gain valuable work experience in a field of interest. Internships may be paid or unpaid. Volunteer positions are opportunities to work with the City of Raleigh in a variety of settings for short term and long term assignments. These positions offer no salary or benefits. Volunteers complete a Volunteer Application and are subject background investigations.
