Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) division operates and maintains the Neuse River Wastewater Treatment Plant, which treats a flow of approximately 44 million gallons of wastewater per day (MGD) from Raleigh and the other Wake County municipalities served.  Current treatment capacity is 60 MGD.

The plant staff operates a sophisticated laboratory that performs thousands of analytical tests each year to insure that the plant protects water quality in the Neuse River.  The WWTP division also operates and maintains 115 remote sewer pump stations and three chemical feed odor control stations.

The WWTP division also operates and maintains the Smith Creek WWTP , which treats a flow of approximately 1 million gallons per day from the Wake Forest service area.  The Smith Creek WWTP was acquired as the result of the merger with Wake Forest.  Current treatment capacity of the facility is 2.4 MGD.

Additionally, the WWTP division operates and maintains the Little Creek WWTP, which was acquired as a result of the merger with Zebulon and treats a flow of approximately 626,000 gallons per day from the Zebulon service area.  Current treatment capacity of the facility is 1.85 MGD.
