Construction

Attention: Designers, Engineers, Homeowners, and Inspectors
National, State and Local code interpretations as approved by the International Code Council, the North Carolina Department of Insurance and the City of Raleigh are provided for your reference for use on current and future projects.

The Construction Division consists of 60 personnel. The primary function of the Construction Division is to perform permitted and non-permitted inspections in a timely, professional manner. Four trade groups form the basis of the inspection process: Building, Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing. The four trade groups together perform an average of 600 inspections per day. Examples of non-permitted inspections include amplified entertainment, massage businesses, day care, therapeutic homes, mentor homes, "Alcohol Beverage Control" life safety reports and unsafe/condemned buildings.

Effective October 30, 2006, new business rules apply:

  • When a final inspection is called in, any pending (open) inspections for that permit number will automatically be scheduled for the same date
  • Inspections scheduled out of sequence may result in the inspection being rejected with a re-inspection fee charged
  • Before scheduling a framing inspection, all other trade inspections must be approved.  All trade inspections can be scheduled in any order of sequence.  The framing inspection will always be the last inspection scheduled after all other trade rough ins have been approved.
