Transportation Services

The Transportation Services Division of the Public Works Department is responsible for the planning and implementation of the City’s transportation system.  This includes the development of a seamless and efficient network of highways, thoroughfares and streets in conjunction with the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.  Division staff also reviews and coordinates all new development plans to make sure each plan is consistent with adopted transportation plans and other capital projects.

Our Programs include:

  • Bicycle Program
  • Development Coordination
  • Neighborhood Traffic Management
  • Pedestrian Program
  • Streetlight Program
  • Transportation Planning

The Transportation Services Division also develops the funding programs for transportation projects throughout the City.  Division staff works with public officials and citizens to secure and prioritize project funding that helps reduce congestion, improve safety, and create better accessibility for bicyclists and pedestrians.
