How To Maintain a Healthy House

What Can I Do To Maintain A Healthy House

Electrical

Any drop cords over 10 feet long?
Do switches or receptacles need repair?
Cover plates missing or exposed wiring?

Plumbing

Sink traps leaking?
Leaking or broken pipes?
Any stopped up drains?

Structure

Are windows broken?
Weak or sagging floors?
Windows need reglazing?
Roof sagging or leaking?
Exterior deterioration?

Heating

Heating equipment properly vented?
Are there any broken or loose chimney bricks?

Property Maintenance

Is the lawn mowed?
Is the yard littered?
Checklist for a Healthy House
  • Repair or replace defective receptacles and switches.
  • Install proper fuses.
  • Repair loose or un-connected wires.
  • Remove long drop cords.
  • Repair leaking pipes and stopped-up drains.
  • Properly insulate pipes.
  • Repair leaking roof and strengthen weak floors.
  • Repair deteriorated exterior wall covering, eaves and paint.
  • Replace broken windows and damaged screens.
  • Repair damaged chimneys.
  • Vent stoves and repair defective heating units
  • Assure smoke detectors are working properly.
  • Remove litter from yard.
  • Keep yard mowed.
  • Use proper trash and garbage containers.
  • Maintain outbuildings.
